SRE Annual Meeting Will Be Drive-Thru Only

Early Voting Available at Office Drive-thru Window

Due to COVID-19 pandemic precautions, Southern Rivers Energy (SRE) will hold a non-traditional, drive-thru Annual Meeting of Members on Saturday, August 29, 2020 under the equipment shed behind their office at 1367 Hwy 341 South in Barnesville.

The SRE Annual Meeting generally draws well over 500 people each year. Although the co-op had hoped to host a reduced number of members this year while implementing social distancing and other precautions, President/CEO Michael McMillan and the SRE board, recently determined that a drive-thru format would be the best option.

"This was not an easy decision for the board to make,” SRE President/CEO Michael McMillan says. “We discussed various ideas at length and several months ago thought we had a plan that would work. But with the recent spike in cases, we felt like a drive-thru method would be the safest way to hold the meeting, while at the same time adhering to our bylaws and keeping the board election timeline intact.”

The drive-thru meeting will be held from 9-10 a.m. at Southern Rivers Energy’s office in Barnesville. Members will receive a copy of the Annual Report, 2019 annual meeting minutes and a ballot for approving the minutes and electing three directors. They will drive through the stations under the equipment shed to register and turn in their completed ballots. Members are encouraged to bring their pre-printed registration card from the cover of the August issue of Georgia Magazine to expedite the process. Other changes to the format include: no health fair, gifts, door prizes or breakfast.

Early voting is also available at the office drive-thru window any day prior to August 29 during normal business hours, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

“If members know they are coming by the office to vote, we would ask that they bring their registration card from the August magazine cover, but it is not required,” Director of Marketing/Members Services Erin Cook, says. “Any member stopping by the drive-thru to make a payment will be given the opportunity to register and vote.”

"On behalf of the board, we want to thank our members for their patronage and their cooperation with all the changes we’ve had to implement this year, including the annual meeting,” President/CEO Michael McMillan says. “We look forward to seeing you in person at next year’s annual meeting.”

As a cooperative, SRE is an independent, private, and not-for-profit organization owned by the members it serves. Members are represented through a democratically elected board of directors which are voted on at the Annual Meeting of Members each year.
